openLDAP default search filter

Managers,
This is a bit off topic, but I've found you to be the best
available source of information, so I'll take a chance and ask anyway.
We have a Solaris 8 box that we are attempting to change into an LDAP
client. It is accessing the LDAP server, however the log files show us
that it is searching using "objectclass=posixUser" as the default search
filter. Is there any way to change the default search filter for an
openLDAP client? Nothing is apparent in the ldap.conf file. However,
there MUST be a variable that can be set in that file to change the
default filter. Do any of you know what that variable is?
Thanks in advance for your help.
