time server syncing

i'm having problems setting up time servers. They are
all set up identically but don't bother syncing. I
have the following (all solaris 8 latest cluster
patch) -
# cat /etc/inet/ntp.conf
server x.x.x.x
server y.y.y.y
driftfile /etc/ntp.drift

x and y are two internal nt servers syncing their time
with internet servers.

# cat /etc/ntp.drift
39.100

(which its put in itself)

Mon Oct 28 15:01:30 GMT 2002
(out by two mins just now, have set it to all kinds)

try to force -
/usr/sbin/ntpdate x.x.x.x
28 Oct 14:57:06 ntpdate[4141]: the NTP socket is in
use, exiting

/usr/lib/inet/xntpd
is running.

The only attempts at time sync i see are when I
rebooted in /var/adm/messages -

is it syncing and drifting off ? All the servers seem
the same ie. not showing the real time by minutes.

tried set dosynctodr = 0 in one /etc/system but no
difference. I left it over the weekend to see if it
needed time to sync but no difference. Any suggestions
on how to sync time and check it is syncing ?
