The fix was what Reginald Beavers mentioned in his response. In fact, I had
imported files to PC and used Excel and Word for manipulating them based on
various columns. Al though, I saved them as text files in the end, there
were some extra ^M characters left in the files. So, I opened the files
using vi editor and use :set list command to see the extra characters. After
confirming their existence, I used dos2unix command to remove those extra
characters. After that I used them as NIS data resource files and this time
it worked fine.
