Diskspace problem

A colleague, not me, honest. Has been trying to install Oracle via
rpm's and has been having problems deleteing empty directories. He mast
have saw me delete one empty dir of his using 'unlink' and decided, all
on his own that this may be a quick way of deleteing stuff... After
explaing to him that this was an extremely bad way he sheepishly
admitted to the following;

He installed Oracle under root, was having problems deleteing it again,
unlinked /usr/oracle and voila, it was gone. He cannot recover the
diskspace he was expecting... I'm guessing that the parent inode for
the subdirs has obviously gone, but everything below there has valid
parent-child inode relationships...

Any clues, anyone,

Thanks,

David
