Java content in X11 forwarding Netscape from Linux to Solaris

Hi sysadmins,

I am aware that the following question may be a bit off topic. However, there are so many factors involved that it would be suited for linux/java/X11/Sun mailing lists. So I'm giving it a shot here, hoping someone might have tried this out.

We have an x86 linux box (we tried various flavors of linux) that we would like to use as our "Netscape server" (since Netscape is memory pig). Everything works fine, either piping Netscape or just opening an X session on the linux box to our Solaris one. However, when we open pages with Java applets content, the fonts are barely readable. Browsing java from the linux box's console works fine (no font problems). The prevalent thought is that somehow, the X11 display managers might be the conflicting things here, but we have no further clue. In brief, the font problem only happens when we X11 forward netscape from linux to solaris and open some java applets.

Anyone has any thoughts on this confusing matter?
