Veritas(?) headache?

I've got a bit of a mystery on my hands. I am using Veritas Foundation
Suite on a Sun E450 with 20 internal SCSI disks and 10 external FC-AL disks
in a A5200. The system is running Oracle.

FS Blocksize is 8K.

Whenever we read or write to any veritas-controlled drive, our performance
stinks to high heaven - especially on the FC-AL disks. Logging is off on
the veritas partitions.

I/O Wait isn't a problem - at all. 1-5%. Kernel time, however, is at
25-40%. This leads me to suspect the driver. Vxiod reports 10 daemons
running. This is foundation suite 3.5, vxvm 3.2 - I didn't see any patches.

I/O is adequately distributed and the controller cards are in the
higher-performing slots.

Has anyone seen anything like this?
