Thanks to Robert Brockway, Gaziz Nugmanov and Bhavin Vaidya.
Suggestions were to patch the system ( always a good idea ), use
kdmconfig command, check integrity of packages with pkgchk -f and
start with the fresh set of *dt* file in the user environment.
However, the solution which I bumped into myself, was to run command
'xset fp default' to reset the font path. Somehow it was being
mangled.
