Single sign-on for UNIX boxes via Active Directory server

Hi,

I have a bunch of UNIX boxes (Solaris 8/9/10, HP-UX 10.23/11i, and
Redhat/Fedora/Debian Linux) and my company already has Active Directory in
place.

To make my UNIX users just authenticate and be authorized with the AD
server, I'm looking for a solution without setting up another UNIX LDAP
server as a replica to the existing AD server.

With my initial research, one possibility appears to be to use Samba
winbind. (Please correct me if it's wrong)

Anybody successfully configured and migrated UNIX boxes to AD using Samba
winbind for both authentication and authorization?

I'd like to hear if it's possible (with Samba winbind) to begin with and
also the detailed steps involved.

Thanks in advance.
