veritas on v880 solaris 8 problem

Hey all, I am hitting a wall with veritas

here is the error I am getting

ld.so.1: vxconfigd: fatal: libdevid.so.1: open failed: No such file or
directory
Killed

I have just freshly installed and patched a solaris 8 system on a v880
installed SUNWsan
applied relevant patches
ran vxinstall to encapsulate the root disk
reboot and this.

does anyone have any ideas?
