All,

Apologies, that previous post will cause some confusion unless I mention
that 'boot cdrom -s new' is only used because we're using a custom-made
CDROM rather than the network in this example. Sorry, didn't see this.
Nevertheless, it's the WARNING & NOTICE messages we're concerned about, and
they are stopping the system from booting from the Jumpstart server. We can
reproduce these messages by building the system from the CDROMs & then
running:

bash-2.05# dmesg |grep -i ce0:
Feb 27 17:53:41 nus667 genunix: [ID 408789 kern.warning] WARNING: ce0: fault
detected external to device; service degraded
Feb 27 17:53:41 nus667 genunix: [ID 451854 kern.warning] WARNING: ce0: xcvr
addr:0x01 - link down
Mar 1 09:41:52 nus667 genunix: [ID 408789 kern.notice] NOTICE: ce0: fault
cleared external to device; service available
Mar 1 09:41:52 nus667 genunix: [ID 451854 kern.notice] NOTICE: ce0: xcvr
addr:0x01 - link up 1000 Mbps full duplex
Mar 1 09:41:52 nus667 genunix: [ID 408789 kern.warning] WARNING: ce0: fault
detected external to device; service degraded
Mar 1 09:41:52 nus667 genunix: [ID 451854 kern.warning] WARNING: ce0: xcvr
addr:0x01 - link down
Mar 1 09:42:00 nus667 genunix: [ID 408789 kern.notice] NOTICE: ce0: fault
cleared external to device; service available
Mar 1 09:42:00 nus667 genunix: [ID 451854 kern.notice] NOTICE: ce0: xcvr
addr:0x01 - link up 1000 Mbps full duplex
Mar 1 10:21:23 nus667 genunix: [ID 408822 kern.info] NOTICE: ce0: no fault
external to device; service available
Mar 1 10:21:23 nus667 genunix: [ID 611667 kern.info] NOTICE: ce0: xcvr
addr:0x01 - link up 1000 Mbps full duplex
Mar 1 14:01:05 nus667 genunix: [ID 408789 kern.warning] WARNING: ce0: fault
detected external to device; service degraded
Mar 1 14:01:05 nus667 genunix: [ID 451854 kern.warning] WARNING: ce0: xcvr
addr:0x01 - link down

Although these are only WARNINGs & NOTICEs, they are stopping the systems
from booting from the network.

Hope this clarifies things.

Regards,
Alex
