Not sure how to word the Subject line for this...

here is how it goes.
I built a sun v240 with 4 internal disks. Currently no mirroring the OS
but has veritas 4.1.
i never bothered to set the nic bge0 to 100/FULL and left it at auto-neg
it comes up fine
at 100-full autoneg. the switch is hardcoded at 100/FULL. I had weird
performance issues.

the system spent over 16 hours to unzip Sol 10 Recommended Patch bucket
( less then 100MB)
Something was a miss here. IOWAIT was zero. IOSTAT -x show high wait
times for service
low CPU / LOAD. trussing would show unzip sleeping.

every time there is high IO it would slow the machine so bad even
commands will not break out.

one of my collegues saw this nic setting not conforming to existing
standard, forces it to 100-full
and like magic every thing was a snap just like the system never had any
problem.

So i was wondering... why this Slowness occurs when the bge driver has
this mis match issue?
i will be digging/looking into this issue at sunsolve, mean time i
thought it will post it here and see
if any one else encountered this problem.

i guess its time to learn DTRACE :-)

thanks
