patchadd question

Is there some way to run patchadd to apply a patch to a software product
where the product resides on a file server AND the original system from
which the product was installed to the file server is no longer around?

Here's the situation. Years ago a Sun compiler was installed onto a
file server so it'd be available to a bunch of workstations. As best as
I can tell, the system from which the product installer was run is no
longer in service hence there's no machine that has the compiler as part
of its package database. I now need to apply a product patch where the
patch uses <install_dir> as the product root. I assume patchadd obtains
<install_dir> from the product's package info, maintained on the system
from which the original installation was done. As that system is gone
is there some way I can apply the patch. Obviously I'm trying to avoid
having to re-install the entire product.

Thanks.
