Sun T2000 Solaris 10 serial console

I have a new pair of Sun T2000's with Solaris 10 06/06 + reasonably
current patch cluster.

They will go into a lights out style datacenter and the serial console
port must be usable at all times.

I've got the serial port talking correctly to the Lantronix console
server.

The problem is that when I go from runlevel 3 to single-user the
console-login is disabled by SMF. This behavior severely limits the
usefulness of the serial console. The whole reason to /have/ a serial
console is so you can manage the server in all of it's various states
without regard for anything other than is the OBP or kernel alive.

The administration manuals are totally silent on configuring the serial
console port past the initial OS load.

What SMF or other configuration changes do I need to make in order to
allow the serial console to remain available during system boot,
shutdown and runlevel transistions?
