Problem with YPBIND

Hi

One of our NIS slave running 5.8 Generic_108528-18, Sun-Fire-280R, had
problem with ypbind. It should bind to localhost but unfortunately it
was not able to bind to itself and reported NIS server for the domain is
not responding and after few min reported NIS server for domain OK and
again same problem.

Due to this my NIS server lost the binding, all the clients that were
binding to this host started giving same error. There was another host
listed in the ypservers but I am not sure why clients did not failover
to that slave.

I also saw this error on the slave server: -
ypserv[19935]: [ID 942997 user.error] dev udp open failed

I am looking at two things: -
a) what could be the root cause for the problem?
b) why clients failed over to anther slave?

anybody seen this kind of behavior? It will be helpful if you can give
me any pointers.

thanks,
Nitin
