resizing a mirror

I have a mirrored partition I need to resize (Solaris 9, Solstice
DiskSuite). I happen to have another partition with excess capacity
so here's my plan. I'm looking to see if anyone can poke any holes in
the plan.

1) Break both mirrors
2) Resize the two partitions on one of the underlying disks
3) Copy the data from the other disk to the resized partitions
4) Resize the partitions on the second disk
5) Recreate the mirrors

The part I am most unsure of is whether or not once the mirrors are
broken I can copy from one partition to its resized pair. Can I either
mount the old submirror and use cpio? Or can I use dd on the unmounted
detached submirror?
