Looking for a script to check diskspace of a server?

Hello Managers,
I would like to know if anybody has a shell script or
perl script that reports the diskspace usage on
a server. I have a file system I would like to know
how much disk usage is on the top level directory
which contains about 5 directories.
I know a "du -sk *" will take care of this, but I was
wondering if somebody has written a more elegant
script that will report the usage. Plus this command
"du -sk *" seems to take forever on this file system.
I am running Solaris 8, and this file system is very
large, over 1 terabytes.
Many thanks in advance
Tony
