Sun gnome problem -Resolved

Thanks to all who tried to help with this problem, especially Raf and Brian.

In the end the cause of the blank screen was nothing to do with Gnome. The
user's home directory should have been mounted udp! Why Gnome did not work
but CDE did I guess I will never know.........

If I were you, I'd look in the system log to see if you get any weirdness
there - my suspecion is that it's a permissioning issue. Does using gnome
entail using any shared resources/exports which he may not have access to?

Perhaps the cleanup didn't work because the user already had init files
under his home directory which were not writable to him?

Just a couple of thoughts. Hope this helps.
