Question #1: How to remove a printer
manually "by removing the files for that
printer"?
I have two printers out of 150+ that I can
not remove! I tried everything "lpadmin
-x", "admintool", "jetdirect" and those
printer come back with the error message:
"can not remove printer".
I stopped the printers and made sure that
there are no jobs on those printers. I
clean-the spool directory for those
printers. Stopped the spooler ... same
error message... can not remove printer.
What files do I have to remove from the
file-system to take-out and LPR printer?
What files do I have to remove from the
file-system to take-out and Jetdirect
printer?
Backgrown to my problem. The printers in
questions existed years back... an SA
installed new printer over the old
printers. The issue was the new printers
were different printers, however, /et/hosts
was still pointing to the old legacy
printers. Since, then I can not remove
those two printers.
Question #2: JetDirect upgrade.
I am doing a JetDirect upgrade. There are
150+ printers defined on the machine with a
combination of Lexmark (w/ Lexmark drivers)
LPR printers and Jetdirect printers. I am
assumming that removing the JetDirect
package and installing the new JetDirect
package will no affect my currently defined
printers. Is this the right assumption or
are there any danger that I will loose my
current printer defenitions? Will it
affect the LPR or Lexmark printers?
I am also upgrading the software on the
assumption that the New JetDirect software
will support the HP8000 and all the new HP
printers that hit the market place in the
last 3yrs since the original JetDirect
install. Will the new sofware have support
for HP8000, HP5si etc etc?
