Ping IPv6 host by hostname

I'm doing some testing with IPv6 and have come across an unusual scenario.

I have 2 systems (1 Solaris 10, 1 Windows XP Pro) on the same subnet
configured to use IPv6. In the host table of the Solaris system I have placed
a entry for the Windows XP system. I can ping the Windows system by IP address
but I can't ping it by hostname. I get the following error:

ping: unknown host hostname

If I try using ping -A inet6 hostname I get the same error.

Oddly enough we're getting the same results when trying to ping by hostname
from the Windos XP system to the Solaris system. The Windows system can ping
the Solaris system by IP but not by hostname.

As for the Solaris setup, the /etc/nsswitch.conf file is setup for "files" for
both hosts and ipnodes.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Dale
