Strange dmfe link_mode value

Hi all,

I have a strange issue with the DMFE ethernet driver on a Sun Fire
v100[1].

I want to force it to 100/FDX, so have edited the
/platform/sun4u/kernel/drv/dmfe.conf file, as referenced by the dmfe(7D)
man page. This file contains the following entries :

speed = 100;
full-duplex = 1;

I then rebooted the server, and went to check on the values with ndd :

# /usr/sbin/ndd -get /dev/dmfe0 link_speed
100
# /usr/sbin/ndd -get /dev/dmfe0 link_mode
2

As you can see, the link_speed returns the expected result, but I have
never seen a value of "2" before for link_mode on a dmfe NIC. The man
page doesn't give any return values for ndd, so I checked the
documentation on docs.sun.com[2]. This reveals the following information
(on page 26, Table A-2 "Read-Only Parameters That Report the Link
Status, Speed, and Mode") :

link_mode :
1 = Full duplex
0 = Half duplex

Which is what I usually see on other systems (bge cards etc.). So, now
I'm stumped. I can't find any mention of what this "2" value means in
the available documentation, and a Google/Usenet search returns a few
people asking the same question, but no answer. If anyone could shed any
light on this, or point me in the right direction it would be much
appreciated.

Many thanks in advance,

-Mark
