Samba on Solaris 9

Greetings,

    I'm running a fully patched SB150 running Solaris 9 and I'm having
trouble with Samba. I've edited the smb.conf file to reflect the
workgroup and my network, and I can see my Sun box from the windows
computers just fine. Problem is, I can't set the password for the
samba accounts and so I can't log in. I've tried
smbpasswd USERNAME
smbpasswd -a USERNAME

following other advice, I put in

cat /etc/passwd | mksmbpasswd.sh > /etc/sfw/private/smbpasswd

and it returns an error saying mksmbpasswd.sh cannot be found.

I'm trying to connect all XP machines, 'encrypt passwords = yes' and
'security = user', and the users that are to be using Samba are all
in the smb.conf file. Everything else seems fine, but I just cna't
set a password to log in from my XP machines. Thanks for any help,
cheers.
