Hi,
Thanks to Casper's quick response :
The DCA floppy alone is not sufficient; but a Solaris 8
(1of2) or S9 (1of2) or S10 (1ofmany) CD should suffice for
single user boot and mounting the root device
At least I know it's not the Installation CD that we need
here for password recovery.
Thanks,
G Sun

Hi,
I've managed to download some other DCA images
& follow the instructions at the following url & got
a working floppy :
http://www.sun.drydog.com/faq/4.html#4.11
Now, I'm left with getting the large Sol 9 x86 CD
(dont want DVD as I dont think the IDS box has
DVD drive).
BTW, which CD is that? Is that CD1/3, 2/3 or ?.
I suppose a Sol 10 or Sol 9 x86 can be used to do
password recovery for a Sol 8, right?
Presumably, just like Sparc, the later the CD, the
more up-to-date drivers it has.
Thanks & sorry for the frequent post,
G Sun

Hi
We have Cisco IDS 4235 & one book (Cisco Security Professional's
Guide to Securite Intrusion Detection) says it's running Solaris for Intel
& gave the password recovery as follows :
*************************** start of book extract **************************
In order to carry out the password recovery procedures, you'll need :
Solaris for Intel CD-ROM.
Solaris Device Configuration Assistant disk (boot disk). This can be downloaded from the Sun support Web site. http://soldc.sun.com/support/drivers/dca_diskettes/. Cisco does not maintain this diskette on the Cisco Web site and cannot guarantee the whereabouts of the information on the Sun Web site.
Console access to the workstation.

I went to the above website (the full url ends up as
https://sdlcweb2d.sun.com/ECom/EComActionServlet/LegalPage:~:com.sun.sunit.sdlc.content.LegalWebPageInfo;jsessionid=878C6525EC529C4B04809E8F35BF9836;jsessionid=878C6525EC529C4B04809E8F35BF9836 ) & got DCA for Solaris x86 8 1001, English (S8_1001.3.zip, 921.10 KB).
I then unzip this S8_1001.3.zip & downloaded dd.exe & found
that I could not burn this S8_1003.3 to my floppy (see below) :

What have I done wrong or is there any other way of Solaris x86
password recovery (specifically for this Cisco IDS 4235 which
I believe is actually a Dell 1u box)?
Thanks
