Printing files w/Simplified Chinese characters

I have a file with mixed ASCII and Simplified Chinese characters in it
and am trying to print this out to a LJ printer that does have
postscript. I am having no luck. I searched google and docs.sun.com
and found a small document that says to use the mp program to make this
work. E.g. use a command like 'mp <file> | lp'. But all I get is a
postscript output with good ASCII characters but gibberish Chinese
chars. I do see from the mp man page that you can specify the locale by
doing 'mp -L <LANG> file | lp' but I'm not a Chinese expert and do not
know what to put into the LANG variable. My system is set up by default
on the posix C locale, so I assume mp is grabbing that and doing
basically no translation.
Any help would be great.
TIA
