Winbind (LDAP) for Samba but nothing else

Hello, list;
   I want to configure Samba to use winbindd (and thus OpenLDAP) to hand
off passwords to an Active Directory server for Samba, but not for SSH,
rlogin, CDE logins, or anything else. Which parts of the PAM &
nssswitch.conf instructions detailed in "The Official Samba-3 HOWTO and
Reference Guide" book Chapter 20 do I need to follow, and which do I
leave out?
   I am working with Samba 3.0.11pre2, MIT Kerberos 1.3.6 and OpenLDAP
2.2.19 on Solaris 8. I can get a ticket, and I can reach the LDAP
server....but when I add "winbind" or "ldap" to the "hosts" line of my
/etc/nsswitch.conf file, my ssh connections are killed after 10 minutes
(i.e., the timeout).
   I know that something is amiss with my OpenLDAP configration, and I'm
working on that. In the mean time, it would be helpful to only be
working on the Samba authentication. :7)
   Thanks in advance.
