I Was wondering myself why sun blade 1000 disappeared so fast from the
market leading to sun blade 2000?
Is there any hidden architectural bug ??
Sun tells that a 900MHz UltraSparc III CPU will perform up to 50% faser on
Sun blade 2000 than Sun blade 1000, this because in the blade 2000
prefetching is enabled in CPU and the new Sun Forte compiler add new
specific options. I wonder if this is really true if one is using GCC. I
expect blade 2000 and blade 1000 with one single 900MHz cpu will perform
the same way if one is not using a Forte compiler for it's own developing
applications.
Anyone have some hints on the real difference between sun blade 1000 and
sun blade 2000 ?
I have compared a Sun blade 1000 with a 750MHz cpu with a Digital personal
workstation with a 500MHz CPU. I used a progam called tscp which basically
is a chess game program willing to measure some kind of bogomips.
Anyway my alpha at 500MHz and ultrasparc III 750MHz were performing the
same vay, while I expectd sun blade 1000 to be faster!!
Perhaps that the sun blade 1000 motherborad is not smart enough to take
advantege of such a powerful ultrasparc III cpu ?
any hints?
