Hello Sun managers
I am using the following procedure to delete a NIS+ replica
SYNOPSIS: Remove a nis+ replica or recreating a replica.
DETAIL DESCRIPTION:
As root user on the rootmaster nis+ system:
1) nisrmdir -f -s <actualreplicaname> org_dir.yourdomainname. < you need
this end dot
ex: nisrmdir -f -s total org_dir.labs.com.
2) nisrmdir -f -s <actualreplicaname> groups_dir.yourdomainname.
nisrmdir -f -s total groups_dir.labs.com.
3) nisrmdir -f -s <actualreplicaname> yourdomainname.
nisrmdir -f -s total labs.com.
4) nisclient -co <actualreplicaname>
This overwrites creds for the replica
machine, It asks for the root password of ex replica.
As root user on ex replica:
a) rm -r /var/nis/*
b) rm /etc/.rootkey
c) ps -ef | grep nis , kill pids for all nisd's and nis_cachemngrs
d) nisclient -i -d <yourdomainname.> -h <rootmastername>
#nisclient -i -d labs.com. -h woof
If it complains about not being able to find the /var/nis coldstart file,
ignore this.
5) Reboot ex replica ( it will now be a nis+ client only).
To convert the nis+ client to a replica, become root user on ex replica or
now a client:

Even though it gives no error messages when carrying out the above , I
get the
following result when running nisping ( or root master has hostname emys
and the replica is called palmate ) :
Pinging replicas serving "directory foe.co.uk." :
Master server is "emys.foe.co.uk."
Last update occurred at Thu Sep 9 15:58:45 2004
Replica server is "palmate.foe.co.uk."

I note that when I do 'strings NIS_COLD_START'
on the root master , it still shows an entry for
palmate.
Both machines are running Solaris 9 , SunBlade 100
Any ideas please ? I will summarise , thanks in advance
