Cadence ICFB S/W = Sun graphics card issues

Sun Managers,

I am posting this on behalf of a customer , I'll relay any advice
/opinions:

While running Cadence ICFB version 5.0.32 on all of our Sun UltraSparc
machines with Solaris 8 OS we are having a problem with a display freeze
while performing multiple zoom functions in a layout cellview with donut
geometries. This frozen or locked state lasts for times ranging from 20
seconds to several minutes. This was not a problem while running ICFB
version 4.4.6. However, another bug, and 4.4.6 no longer being supported
by Cadence, neccessitated the migration to IC 5.0.32. We have also
experimented with IC 5.0.33, but it too has additional problems and I
was still able to freeze the system with my testcase.

The systems in question have various combinations of
hardware/software/graphics. The machines I was readily able to duplicate
the problem with were:

1) 2 Sun Ultra 10's running Solaris 5.8 with PGX-M64 Graphics
2) 1 Sun Ultra 5 running Solaris 5.8 with PGX-M64 Graphics
3) 1 Sun Ultra 60 running Solaris 5.8 with Creator FFB Graphics

I've tried 5 different graphics cards in my perspnal Ultra60 (PGX32,
PGX-M64, Elite 3DM6 Graphic Series 2, Creator 2D Single Buffer FFB2+,
and Creator 3D) and the fact of the matter is that the lowest-end
graphics card (the PGX32) is still the only one not causing a display
freeze. I can freeze Cadence using every other graphics card I've tried.

This low end card is slow to respond with layer cyclics and also has
some problem displaying the grid properly. I would love to be able to
correct these issues by running a better, high-end, graphics card such
as the Creator3D. It would make our mask design more efficient. However,
the fact of the matter is, a slow system is still better than a system
that freezes for minutes at a time leaving our layout engineers
completely unable to work.

I'm sure others are running Cadence ICFB version 5.0.32 on Sun Ultra
systems, hopefully with Solaris 8. I'd like to find out what graphics
card they are running and if they have seen similar problems.

Best Regards,

Scott Spencer
