Hi Managers,

while performing backup I get some strange ufsdump warnings.

DUMP: Warning - block 1952998516 is beyond the end of `/dev/md/rdsk/d10'
DUMP: Warning - block 1751840906 is beyond the end of `/dev/md/rdsk/d10'
DUMP: More than 32 block read errors from dump device `/dev/md/rdsk/d10'
DUMP: Warning - block 1717597294 is beyond the end of `/dev/md/rdsk/d10'
DUMP: Warning - block 4175324390 is beyond the end of `/dev/md/rdsk/d10'
DUMP: More than 32 block read errors from dump device `/dev/md/rdsk/d10'

After 32 "block read errors" DUMP aborts. I know that ufsdump backups
not recommended without switching to single-user mode but I'm using same
scripts ( ksh scripts ) on same OS ( Solaris 9 4/04 ) and on same
hardware ( SunFire V240 ) without any problems since 3 months.

I do not have any overlapping partitions. I switched to single-user
mode and fsck'ed the filesystem and didn't get any errors. There's no
problems seen on metastat output. There's no syntax error in /etc/vfstab.

Mostly I'm trying to backup two *.gz files approximately 300 MB length.
If the dump process estimates the right size no problems occur and
backup completes successfully. But if ufsdump estimates the size as
approximately 1/2 of the real size the backup process gets errors and
aborted.

I run the same backup process 7 times a day. Generally 2 of them
succeeds, others not.

I can not find the problem and need help. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Murat
