Strange path_to_inst problem

We have a Fujitsu PrimePower 650 running Solaris 8...

We have a Gigabit card in slot 0. From path_to_inst:

"/pci@80,2000/ethernet@1" 1 "fjge"

we moved the GB card and replaced with an Emulex LP9002 card. We then added the Emulex driver. The driver loads properly and I can see the card using lputil or hbanyware... card is working fine. Looking at the path_to_inst I can see the "fjge" entry for slot 0 is gone and has been replaced by:

"/pci@80,2000/fibre-channel@1" 0 "lpfc"

just like i would expect... but then things get interesting... we reboot the server (which does a reconfigure since the pkgadd touched a /reconfigure) and the lpfc driver doesn't load. We look at the path_to_inst file and the silly fjge entry is back for slot 0 and the lpfc entry is no where to be found! Argh! And i should also mention that there is a new entry for the fjge on the slot we moved it to...

The question is why where would this fjge entry for slot 0 be coming from? We've verified that it's not in path_to_inst or path_to_inst.old before we shut down... There must be some kind of entry for this stuck somewhere but we are at a loss as far as where to look.... We're currently waiting for Fujitsu to give us an answer but was hoping someone has seen this and can give us a quicker answer...

TIA,
john
