Weird Network Oddity with SunFire v210/v240

I'm curious if anyone else has seen this strange oddity I've encountered
with some SunFire v210/v240's. These machines have 4 onboard BroadComm
NICs (bge0-3) and I can only get bge0 to talk to my full network. That
is, a network connection plugged into bge0 can talk to my default router
but all the other ports (1-3) can't. They can talk to the local network,
but can't find the default router even though it's in the routing table.

Add into this, the network performance on bge0 has been horrid
(somewhere on the order of 300-400KB/s transfers via SFTP to another
gigabit ethernet machine whereas other machines including Sun boxes with
the ce network card are getting 3000KB/s or more).

Has anyone seen any sort of strangeness like this? I'm also surprised
that the NICs to not establish a link when connected to a switch
automatically until the port is configured which is a behavior unlike
most other machines out there.

Any thoughts, ideas, comments would be useful since I also have Sun
looking so anything else I can send down their way would be helpful.
Certainly I am wondering at this stage if this is a hardware issue or if
something in the OS is seriously impared.
