Another quick off topic question:

If I have two strings containing different times, can anyone suggest the
best way to work out the minutes between the times?

E.G x=22:59:01, y=23:09:01, Mins different = 10

Is there an "extended" time package available like the GNU CoreUtils for
sparc?
