e250 RSC password unknown - new IDPROM to fix?

Hello Sun Managers,

I have an E250 with RSC (Remote System Control)
security enabled. This is preventing access to
OBP and booting.
No framebuffer is installed. ttya and ttyb are
silent. The RSC serial port shows:

> RSC version 1.14 (atlamsgr)
> Please login:

Since I don't know the RSC login or password,
I cannot proceed.

Keyboard STOP-N at power-on does not reset the
RSC security.

A Sun infodoc attempts to help:
"InfoDoc ID 47745 - What to do if RSC is
configured and the password is forgotten".
http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/retrieve.pl?doc=finfodoc%2F47745

This Sun doc explains a couple of different
methods to reset to default settings, but none
seems to work. Searching on the web shows
others have had the same problem:
http://supportforum.sun.com/hardware/index.php?t=msg&goto=6346&rid=0#msg_6346
http://forums.sunhelp.org/showthread.php?t=526

The RSC docs seem to indicate an "RSC!" variable
that when set overrides even a set-defaults,
so I/O continues to go thru the password
protected RSC port, not ttya or screen/keyboard.
The RSC settings that are preventing access and
boot may be stored in the IDPROM (the black
removable chip with the yellow barcode hostid
sticker on top). Before I purchase a new
IDPROM nvram chip, has anyone else seen and
overcome this problem on an E250? Is a new
IDPROM a solution?

Thanks for your help.
