'mt status' on 4mm DAT drive gave 'no tape loaded or drive not online'

Hello,

I've cleaned the DDS3 drive /dev/rmt/0 several times & tried with
several different tapes & it still kept ejecting the tape media about
2 minutes after inserting the tape. I've also rebooted this E4000
box to no avail & "mt -f /dev/rmt/0 status" keep returning the above
message - any other suggestions before I swap out the drive -
I've also tried "drvconfig; tapes" on this Solaris 2.5 box, hoping it
will rebuild the device files (but I forgot to remove all occurrences
of /dev/rmt/*0* first before issuing it - should I remove those device
files first before redoing "drvconfig; tapes"?

Thanks for any input
Goh
