Adding a static route to a F**K system controller

All,

I am trying to add a static route to a F12K system controller using the
following command:

route -f add DESTINATION-NETWORK GATEWAY -netmask 255.255.255.224

The DESTINATION-NETWORK and GATEWAY IP addresses are valid for the route
[have checked on another host].

Problem: Whenever this route is added, the system controller looses all
external network connectivity and fails over to the second SC. The route is
shown in the routeing table [netstat -r] - Once the static route is removed,
the HME interface on the SC comes backup and network connectivity is
restored.

Has anyone got any ideas why this is happening?
