removing a terminator

I will soon install a second UltraSCSI PCI card and StorEdge MultiPack disks
on our SUNBlade 100 system with Solaris 8 operating system.

According to the installation manual that came with the MultiPack:

"Each Sun StorEdge MultiPack drive enclosure comes with an external
single-ended terminator. For UltraSCSI operation, do not use the external
terminator. The onboard autoterminator functions in UltraSCSI mode."

If I understand this correctly, I should not apply the terminator if I want
UltraSCSI performance (which presumably is faster than other types).

However, there is already a MultiPack attached to an existing UltraSCSI PCI
card, and it has a terminator. If what is printed in the manual is true,
this terminator should be removed to enable UltraSCSI operation.

(1) Is it okay to remove this terminator while the system is running, or
should I take the system down first and then reboot?

(2) If I should take the system down and reboot, should I make sure that
everything is okay (like wait a day and check the logs) before I install the
second PCI card and MultiPack?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Marian Russell
