Solaris 9 boot issues

All:

I am trying to mirror my root filesystem to a second disk on a SunFire V480
using Solaris 9. I created the state database replicas (as directed by my
many books). Then I created the RAID 0 volumes and the RAID 1 volume and
attached the main submirror to the RAID 1 volume. I made a backup of the
/etc/vfstab file (before running 'metaroot') and ran 'lockfs -fa'
(supposedly to prevent problems). I then rebooted per my multiple
instructions and the system appears to boot normally then begins to core
dump and restart. I looked at many different forums to try to find a
solution and all require that I boot into single user mode. I attempted
this but to no avail, it wouldn't boot to single user mode . I even
completely re-built the system (from the OS up) and tried everything again
to make sure I didn't skip a step accidently and the same issue occurs.
Any info that you may have will be a great help.
