Sparc 8 Sun Gnome 2.0 Problem

One of our users has "done something" and now can no longer start Sun's
Gnome 2.0 on their Sun Blade running Solaris 8. They login but then just get
a black screen for a few seconds and then get returned to the DtLogin screen.
They can login fine with CDE though.

This is becoming critical because they cannot run many of their apps under CDE.
I can run Gnome as root and it sort of works but doesn't read png files so none of the icons can be resolved. I checked the .dt/startlog and it states:-

I have tried setting DTSOURCEPROFILE to true and false but it doesn't make
a difference. I have tried getting rid of the .profile and .dtprofile files,
as well as .dt and the .gnome files but again it doesn't make a difference.
I have tried re-installing Gnome with a fresh copy from Sun but it is still the same!

Does anyone have any ideas? I have searched the web to no avail but I don't
really know which direction to look. Any pointers/info would be great!
This machine works fine with CDE but just won't run Gnome.

Regards,

Nick
