Will NIS+ clients authenticate to an Apple Open Directory Server??

I have about 40 Solaris clients ranging from Solaris version
2.5.1 to Solaris 9 and have an NIS+ server that they authenticate to.

Is it possible for Solaris clients to authenticate their logins (username
and groups) to a Macintosh OS X server running Apple's Open Directory?
I'm looking for a single authentication server that will authenticate
both Mac OS X accounts and Solaris accounts.

I would like the logins (usernames/passwords) that happen from my Solaris clients to authenticate to the Apple Open Directory Server but still want to
maintain other directory information like netgroups and the auto_home table
to come from my NIS+ server? Is it possible for a Solaris client to have a
reference to an Apple Open Directory Server for logins but still have the
reference to NIS+ sever (/var/nis/NIS_COLD_START) for other information? I realize that I must be at Solaris 8 or 9 to use LDAP is it the same requirement for Open Directory?

Thank You.
