SDS question

I have a SDS/ SVM question.
 
I am trying to backup a boot disk so I create metadevices on the backup disk, attach them as submirrors and let it sync up to the boot disk. Thereafter I detack the backup disk submirrors from the mirror and am trying to mount the backup disk submirror to take it out of SDS control so that I can boot up on it if the boot disk gets corrupted.
In essence here are the steps I am doing
 
metattach d0 d40
(d0 is the mirror with d10 as an existing submirror from the boot disk. d40 is the backup disk submirror)
 
after the resyncing completes
metadetach d0 d40
 
mount /dev/md/dsk/d40
At this point the box panics.
 
Can anyone point me to a possible cause why the panic occurs when I try to mount the metadevice on the backup disk ?
