SUMARY: rcp problem continued

The problem was in /.bashrc on the remote server, which has this line in it
-

alias -x cp="cp -p"

I hashed this line out and it worked :)

Also, quite a few of you mentioned that it is a bad idea to change root's
shell in /etc/passwd. I am aware of this and this entry was in there when I
arrived at this job a few weeks ago. I plan to ask a few people why this is
so, and if anything relies on root shell being bash by default.

What can be the specific dangers of having the bash shell as root's default
shell ?
