dvd writing

Dear All,

I'm running a NEC dvd +rw writer type "DVD+RW ND-1100A" in an Ultra10
with solaris 8 kernel patch 108529-29 loaded. I'm using an unlocked
version of prodvd "Cdrecord-ProDVD-Clone 2.01a23-2
(sparc-sun-solaris2.8)". What I already accomplished is writing iso
images (created by mkisofs) to +R and +RW dvd media. But I'm also facing
some problems:

- in the prodvd README on
"ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/cdrecord/ProDVD/README"
a procedure is described how to use a +RW dvd media similar to a
harddisk.
A prerequisite for doing this is that the kernel supports udf write
support.
On my machine the following packages are installed:

        SUNWudf
        SUNWudfr
        SUNWudfrx

when I try to create a udfs filesystem on the raw device the command
aborts with
"cannot create". newfs aborts with "cannot create: Read-only file
system".
Is it possible to create a filesystem on a +RW dvd media under solaris
or
am I understanding something completely wrong?

- I'd like to use the multisession feature. But I did not succeed. I
tried to do it the
same way as creating a multisession CD:

          - cdrecord -v -multi ...
          - cdrecord -msinfo (gives the values where the first track
starts and
            its length)
          - mkisofs -J -r -C <values from cdrecord -msinfo> -dev -o ...

Is it possible to create a multisession dvd on a +RW media? If yes
what is the procedure
  for doing it?

- I recognized that it is possible to write a tar file directly to a
dvd. The tar file
can be accessed afterwards over the raw device. Is it possible to
write several tar
files to a dvd and access all afterwards (dvd would be used the same
way as a tape)?

Any help will be highly appreciated and I will summarize.

mark
