Ultra-10 won't recognise my Dell TFT

I have a nice Dell TFT screen but my Ultra-10 won't recognise that
it is connected to the SVGA port and the screen isn't activated or
any screen signals output.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I want to get rid of all the large heavy Sun monitors at work to save
my poor broken back...

Maybe there's a fix that tells the machine to always transmit SVGA signals
even if it doesn't think there's anything connected?
