Unable to rlogin, undefined logindmux

I have installed Solaris 7 Enduser OS service for a diskless SS1 (sun4c)
client on a sun4m OS server also running Solaris 7. The client boot OK
over the net.

Then I copied /etc/password, shadow and group from the server to the
clients root file systems, and edited its /etc/hosts and hosts.equiv.

1) When I try to do rlogin or rsh to the client from the server console,
the following message is displayed on the server:
rlogind: open /dev/logindmux: No such device or access

At the same time the following message is displayed on the clients console:
/usr/kernel/dev/logindmux: undefined symbol miocpullup
WARNING: mod_local: cannot load module 'logindmux'

2) Trying a client console user login, I get the following two messages:
No directory! Logging in with home=/
and also .. sendmail: unable to qualify my own domain name (clientname)
.. using short name.
However rlogin and rsh from the client to the OS server works OK.

I also tried to copy the servers /export/home/homedirs to the clients
/home. But still the same No directory was displayed when login to the
client as a user.

From before I have used Solaris 2.5.1 several years on this
configuration, and have never experienced these problems or messages.
I have to add that I have installed the Solaris 7 recommended
patchcluster on the OS server, but didn't find a way to get it installed
on the clients root filesystem.

Any ideas and suggestiones?
