Re: spurious Using Internal Transceiver with high Ierrs & packet loss (was Availability of Netscape 7.1)

All,

Thanks very much. I got quite many responses suggesting
that I force it to Full Duplex 100Mbps on both Sun & switch end as
well as changing the cable but these did not resolve the problem.

We power cycled the switch & it did not help too. Finally we
changed the switch & it solved the problem.

Thanks to all those who came to help.
Goh

Hi,

I just joined & sorry my previous post has a wrong Subject heading
of Netscape 7. Happened to see a past post on the google (see below).

Can someone repeat the answer to that as I'm facing the same
problem on my Ultra 10's hme1 :

a)it's been running fine for more than a year & out of the blue,
spurious transceiver messages were seen on console or
    /var/adm/messages

b)netstat -i showed lots of Ierrs for hme1 too (about 30%
 of the total Ipkts)

Other Windows servers on this same Cisco switch
do not give Input errors & this is the only Sun
box on this Cisco switch : all ports for the Sun
& Win boxes & the switch are autonegotiated to
Full Duplex, 100Mbps (I know this is not optimal
but I've been using this auto-negotiation on this
same switch for > 1 year with about the same
traffic load).

When the Windows boxes tried to ping that Ultra10's
hme1, it gave abt 40% packet loss. Pinging between
the Win boxes give 0% packet loss. Have tried changing
this Sun box to another port on this same switch &
got the same result (ie Ierrs, packet loss with
intermittent Transceiver messages on console)

Thanks in advance,
Goh
