Re: SunPCI-card inaccessible

Hi all,

I finally can send the summary on how to get this card at work in the
Sun Ultra-5. Just when I got a lot of straight-to-the-point replies from
many of you, my Ultra-5 broke up with memory errors on one of its DIMMs.
So I had to get first new DIMMs from someone on the Internet, got them
yesterday, and as a nice Xmas present installed them today in the box.

Then applied the suggestions you sent me, and done : the SunPCI card is
hapilly seated and the driver correctly loaded.

This is the trick :
1) I downloaded a more recent version of SunPCI software (version 1.3),
but this doesn't work. As Dik Casper point out correctly, each specific
version of the card needs the corresponding specific version of the
driver software.
2) so I trashed the SUNWspci3 package, and loaded (again) the correct
version 1.2.1 package.
As most of you informed precisely, after installing the package, I made
copies of the driver files for Solaris-9 :
cd /opt/SUNWspci/drivers/solaris
cp -p sunpcidrv.280 sunpcidrv.290
cp -p sunpcidrv.280.64 sunpcidrv.290.64
reboot -- -rs
3) after the reboot, run the command
/opt/SUNWspci/drivers/solaris/sunpcload
and you see the driver loaded with
modinfo | grep -i sunpci

4) when launching the command /opt/SUNWspci/bin/sunpci, it protests
about too old BIOS. Searching around on the Net brought me onto
"http://sunsolve.sun.com/data/805/805-6055/pdf/004.ChapEN.pdf", page 20
where the utility "sunpciflash" is mentioned

5) and done. The rest is clearly described in
"http://docs.sun.com/source/817-2966-10/belle_getstart.html"

Rgds

Rob
