Regular readers may recall the saga of the install of Solaris 8 on an Ultra 5
- despite my best efforts, and the assurance of Casper and many others that
"Yes, that should work" I could not get the last released version of Solaris
to install on the box.
So, in the absence of anything else I installed the first version of Solaris
8, which had its own moments (packages which should have been instaled with
the chosen install option not being there etc.)
This box is run a C++ app. which talks to MySQL. This app. however segfaults,
but runs fine on another box running Solaris 8 (latest version). The crash
happens in libc, from what we can see with gdb.
My question for the list now really is how much difference there is between
Solaris 8 (first version) and Solaris8 (latest version) once they're
installed, given that the box with Solaris 8 (first version) has the latest
available patch clusters installed ? There's rather a difference between the
libc versions
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root bin 1157900 Aug 6 03:05 /usr/lib/libc.so.1
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root bin 1136748 Nov 21 2001 /usr/lib/libc.so.1
where the OLDER file is on the box with Solaris 8 (latest version).
