The server runs Solaris 8
It has two disks with several mirrors using Solstice Disksuite 4.2.1

One disk had a error and SDS disabled this submirror.
I opened a case and following the indications of the Sun Engineer I
executed metareplace on this submirror.
it has sinchronized the submirror correctly

The Sun Engineer suggest to run format->analyze->read in this disk for
check the disk.
My question: is it safe to run this command in a mounted mirror?

I belive that it is incorrect because if the disk contains a hard error,
the analyze-read will map the broken sector with a new sector
that hasn't the proper data. The other sub-mirror will contain the
correct information, but the "repaired" submirror will
contain wrong information.

I belive that the method must be: format->analyze->setup->read,
and respond no the question: Repair defective blocks?

I belive that the second method (use setup) is harmless, and the first
method could produce inconsistencies in the mirror.

I will like to watch your opinnions. I will summarize the answers.
