PatchLink

Hi,
I am designing a standardised patch management system for my servers. Has
anyone done this on a complex network? Any suggestions and I will post a
summary.

Network
My network has boxes running Solaris 7,8,9 and Linux. The hardware platforms
are all different (V880, 6800, Ultra 5 etc) Few boxes have direct access to
the internet, so I will be using a proxy server to relay the data.

My requirements are
1. standardise or automate patch level diagnosis
2. from the diagnosis, be able to pick and choose which patches to install
3. automate (as much as possible) the patch delivery

(Note: Requirement 2 means I cannot 'blanket patch' to the latest Sun
recommended OS levels)

Software
I have considered using Solaris PatchPro (http://patchpro.sun.com) but the
software does not operate for a proxy server. There is also Solaris
PatchDiag which I have rolled out, but the functionality is quite limited.
Has anyone used Patch Link (http://patchlink.com)? Although MS orientated,
this claims to work for all Unix/ Linux platforms. Surely if it did all it
says on the box, the product would be familiar to other sysadmins!
Other options will be considered!

Thanks
Geraldine.
