Virus Scanning on the gateway MTA

Hello Admins,

I'm installing a sendmail MTA gateway and I've been asked to add virus
scanning and Real-time Black List functionality. I don't want to use an
appliance. It will be used for about 800 users and I don't know the
mail volume.

Does anyone have any words of advice for me about such a project?

I'm looking at AMaViS which has a version number 0.3.12 and requires
over a dozen modules and support programs. They say that it's ready for
production use, but the low version number and amount of related
software makes me a little hesitant.

Does anyone have any experience good or bad using AMaViS?

Has anyone used an open source product for this? Can you point me to
some web sites?

Has anyone used the sendmail.com (commercial) MTA anti virus solution?
Or another commercial version besides an appliance? I've not found any
besides sendmail.com for Solaris.

Thanks,
Stan
