veritas, mirrored fiber system disks, dd

Hello gurus,

I'm looking for advices on backing up a fiber system disk.

On our 480R, both internal fiber channel disks are mirrored with veritas
( unfortunately, we couldn't use disksuite because it cannot handle the
mirroring of fiber system disks ). To backup this configuration, my
first thought is to create a raw image of the disk using dd, but I
wonder what kind of problem I would encounter during the restore : I
cannot easily simultate a system disk crash on our production system, so
I try to forsee problems as much as possible.

Will dd preserve veritas metadata ?
In case of a disk crash, the new fiber disk will have a different
logical path and thus won't be recognized by veritas, will it ? If not,
how to make it recognized after the dd-image restoration ?
Apart from dd, anything more appropriate to backup/restore such disks ?

Thanks for your advices.
